Aphantopus hyperantus

The Ringlet is a medium-sized British butterfly, looking plain dark brown in flight. When it settles, small black spots are just visible, those at the base of the lower wing sometimes having white centres, and the wings have a thin pale margin. The underside has several more conspicuous eye-spots, and the female is lighter brown underneath. The Ringlet makes short flights and settles with its wings open, often in the shade or on brambles.

The food plant of the Ringlet butterfly is bramble.

The caterpillar is a dull brownish colour with darker lines and a pale stripe on the side, and is slightly hairy. The foodplants are grasses.
