One of the useful things about gathering plants together in Plant Families is that as the members of each Family have things in common, you can often identify the Family a plant belongs to by checking these characteristics. One of the most easily identifiable characteristics is the type of container or pod the seeds are in.
While the seedpods of plants in some Families vary, in some Families the seedpod of all the members of the Family is so similar as to be a good way of identifying the Family.
This also means that knowing which Family a plant belongs to gives you some idea what the seedpod and seeds will look like.
In the following Plant Families, the seedpods (fruits) are similar enough to be used as a way of identifying the Family. Click on the image for more information on the pods of that particular Family.
Campanulaceae Scrophulariaceae Papilionaceae Brassicaceae Lamiaceae Geraniaceae Asteraceae Liliaceae Boraginaceae Iridaceae Malvaceae Caryophyllaceae
