Pulsatilla vulgaris

Pulsatilla vulgaris is a native British plant, although it is very rarely found in the wild. It is herbaceous, and overwinters as a cluster of buds. In spring, these open into soft silky divided leaves on thick stems, topped with silky buds opening into large purple flowers with pointed petals and a golden cluster of stamens in the middle. These are followed by large fluffy seedheads. There is also a white version.

Pulsatilla vulgaris was formerly used as a medicinal plant, to treat depression, stomach problems and tension.

This Plant is POISONOUS
