Petunia grandiflora is a traditional summer bedding favourite, given a new lease of life by the modern fashion for patio pots and hanging baskets. It forms tight little bushes around a foot high, with deep green sticky leaves, covered in large floppy trumpet flowers throughout the summer. While these used to be mainly single flowers in deep velvety single colours or stripes, new varieties are often in lighter colours with veined throats or with frilly double flowers.
