Malcolmia maritima is probably one of the first flowers we come in contact with as gardeners. It is often included in mixtures for children, as it is easy to grow from seed by broadcasting the seed where you want it to grow, and provides an interesting patch of muted colours within a few weeks.
A member of the Cabbage Family, its flowers have four petals, and come in white and all shades of pink and mauve. It is a hardy annual, and has the added bonus of being scented.
