Cerinthe major 'Purpurascens' is a plant that has become popular in recent years. It has large, glaucous blue-green leaves, becoming progressively bluer as they go up the stem, and terminating in a dense cluster of deep blue bracts with a deep purple bell, white inside, in the centre. The stems can reach 18" or more, when the weight of the flowers often causes them to flop over, but they are more impressive if the stems can be held upright so that the colours of the drooping tip can be appreciated.
The large woody seeds sometimes produce two plants.
