Anemone nemorosa is a delicate little plant often forming an elegant carpet in shady woodland in spring, accompanied by bluebells and Yellow Archangel. It grows from a spreading mass of stolons, which produce finely-cut trifoliate leaves in spring. The white starry flowers, about an inch across and often tinged pink on the reverse, with a ring of yellow stamens surrounding a ball of green stigmas, are borne singly on separate stems, with leaves lower down to protect the flowers when in bud.
Anemone nemorosa has been used in traditional medicine to treat headaches.
