Talinum okanoganense is a small relative of the more commonly-grown Talinum paniculatum, Jewels of Opar. It forms an elegant tuffet of tiny, rubbery, pointed greyish green leaves, with small clusters of white flowers with prominent yellow stamens in summer. It is deciduous, surviving as knots of tiny tuberous roots, and is difficult to keep going in damp conditions, so although perennial, it is often short-lived. Its size makes it very suitable for growing in troughs, or in an alpine house where it can be viewed at eye level, as well as protected from cold weather.
