Belamcanda chinensis is not very well known in the UK, although it is fairly hardy. It has unexpectedly wide Iris-like flat bluish leaves, considering the size of its flowers. In summer and into autumn, it bears wiry stems holding small clusters of small flat-faced flowers in bright orange with dark spots, giving rise to one of its common names, Leopard Lily. Following these are the seeds, a cluster of fat black berries, which are the reason for its other common name, Blackberry Lily.
