Thymus serpyllum is a short woody plant with creeping stems and tiny shiny leaves, growing amongst short grasses and other aromatic herbs and wild strawberry amongst short grasses on chalk downs and open heaths. In summer, it bears tight rounded heads composed of many tiny pink flowers.
Thymus serpyllum has been used in traditional medicine as an antiseptic, to aid healing, and as a muscle relaxant.
It is strongly aromatic, and is used as a pot herb.
