Osteospermums are often confused with Dimorphotheca, which is not surprising. At one stage, Dimorphotheca was used for those annuals which have white, yellow or orange flowers, and Osteospermum was applied to the white, pink, or purple flowered perennial plants. Now, however, there are pink annuals referred to as Osteospermums.

Whatever the correct botanical name, these annual plants forming neat little bushes with rough foliage, and bearing white or pink daisy flowers, are generally known as Osteospermums.

There is no seed pod. The seeds are borne in a dense head.

Seed

The seeds are fat oval grains. There are many seeds on a seedhead.

Seedling

The seedling has lobed leaves.

Seed sowing and Germination

Spring: Seeds sown outside in spring germinated in 17 days.
Winter: Seeds sown between folded paper towels in winter germinated in 7-9 days.
