Glaucium flavum is an unexpected flower to find on shingle beaches, looking nothing like the rest of our native poppies. It is a rubbery-looking plant, with thick bluish leaves and large yellow poppy flowers. These develop into long narrow seedpods looking like runner beans which can be up to a foot long.
Glaucium flavum has been used in traditional medicine as a poultice and to treat burns.
