Anagallis arvensis is a familiar wild flower, as it often appears in gardens, as well as on roadsides, edges and waste ground. It is a prostrate annual, with square stems, small shiny leaves, and bright orange-red flowers with a purple centre which only open in the sun (hence the common name).
Anagallis arvensis is a traditional herbal remedy for chest and kidney problems, a laxative, and to aid in the healing of wounds.
