Lamium purpureum is a short member of the Deadnettle family, growing to only a few inches high. It forms bushy clumps, with square stems, often bare at the base, topped with a dense cluster of crinkled heart-shaped leaves, often tinged purple, and small deep pink hooded flowers. It is a common garden weed, as well as growing on roadsides, under hedges and in waste places.
There is a similar plant, Lamium amplexicaule (Henbit), but this has unstalked leaves in more pronounced whorls all the way up the stem.
